What is Applied Neurology?

Neurology is often perceived to be the realm of medical doctors and surgeons, out of reach of day-to-day practitioners, or not within their scope of work. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.

When working with patients and clients, health and training practitioners alike need to be aware that they are ALWAYS utilising and training the nervous system.

Functional neurological deficits – whether from injury, disuse, reconditioning, or developmental issues – affect thousands of people every day who have not suffered from a severe brain trauma, stroke, or neurological disease. Instead, these functional neurological deficits show up as any area of the body lacking in ability, performance, or control. That could be anything from poor coordination in hand/eye reaction, to difficulty walking, speaking, controlling fine or gross motor movements, or differences in side-to-side posture and strength. Furthermore, some clients deal with daily pain, such as headaches, joint pain, inflammation, or neurological pain (such as tingling, burning, and numbness) that all stem from functional neurological deficits.

This course will provide you with a “brain-based lens” through which the body systems and integrated functions can be understood, so that you can implement day-to-day neurology training exercises in your daily routines. It will introduce you to the anatomy and function of several of our most important neurological systems – those used for movement, balance, and postural control – and help you learn and implement practical neurological exercises that can help to restore these systems to optimal function.

When working with children or adults who have developmental issues or mental challenges, these tools can be used to regulate the nervous system, improve attention, focus, and communication, and create balance and optimal movement in the body systems.

After taking this course, you will understand why neurology training is NOT just for doctors or for patients of neurological injury or disease, but a toolset that can benefit EVERYONE.

Kathy Mauck has spent her professional life furthering the science and education of Health and Human Performance. She began in medical research at Oregon Health Sciences University and launched from there into her own entrepreneurial pursuits. She partnered to create a neuroscience-based education company, and after selling that business she now focuses her attention in two areas; Business Growth Coaching, and Neuro-Education for Health Professionals.  She works through 2 separate businesses, KJM Consulting, and Next Level Neuro.

Most recently, as an owner at Next Level Neuro, she has built a 12-Week Neuro Recovery Programme based on her neuroscience education for those suffering long-term symptoms of viral infection, concussion, toxic exposure, or chronic pain. By connecting long-term knowledge of brain/body sciences and neurological training, she has constructed a fast, effective training protocol to reduce or eliminate the massive impacts on health from these issues, helping restore people to healthy life and freedom of movement.
